Young country music artists are ready to hit the stage at the 50th Toyota Country Music Festival in Tamworth, with the inaugural Golden Gig, Sponsored by Macca’s set to kick off on Monday.

The new talent quest will give those 17 years and under a chance to perform on stage at the Festival and provide them with an opportunity to kick start their musical journey.

Toyota Country Music Festival Manager, Barry Harley said: “There has been a great response from youngsters, with up-and-coming country performers from all across the region and the state registering to take part.”

Due to increased demand, additional performer spots have opened up, giving young artists more opportunity to get involved.

“If you haven’t registered for the Golden Gig, there’s still plenty of time to get involved. Artists can go to the Macca’s stage in Family Zone, sign up and jump on stage to perform,” said Mr Harley.

There will be two age categories for the Golden Gig, sponsored by Macca’s, with one dedicated to artists 12 years and under, while the other will be for those aged 13 to 17 years old.

There will also be thousands of dollars’ worth of prizes up for grabs, with the winners of each age category walking away with tools to help them further develop their musical skills.

“The overall winner will be awarded a place and family accommodation at the Country Music Association of Australia’s Junior Song Camp staged in Tamworth in July.

“While the individual winners of each category will receive an instrument of their choice from Yamaha, plus vouchers from Capitol Music and cash prizes,” said Mr Harley.

Winners will be chosen by the panel of judges which includes country music artists and industry representatives.
