Troy Cassar-Daley’s The World Today Announced as Top Selling Australian Country Album of 2021

Tamworth Regional Council and the Country Music Association of Australia Inc. (CMAA) are excited to announce country music legend, Troy Cassar-Daley as the recipient of the 2022 Golden Guitar Award for Top Selling Australian Country Album of the Year for his latest record, The World Today.

As his 13th studio album, The World Today debuted at number three on the ARIA’s Top Album Chart and features co-writes with Paul Kelly, Ian Moss and Don Walker.

Touted as ‘one of his most personal and accomplished albums to date’, The World Today has earned Mr Cassar-Daley the 2021 ARIA Award for Best Country Album, as well as another 7 Golden Guitar nominations in 2022, making it one his most successful albums in his 30-year career.

Chairman of the Country Music Association of Australia, Mr Dan Biddle, said: “I want to congratulate Troy on this fantastic achievement, as well as all the other artists in the Top Selling Album of the Year category. 

“In what has been another unexpected and tough year for the live music industry, it is great to see fans continue to support their favourite artists through buying and streaming their music.”

Based on data compiled by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA), the winner of the Top Selling Australian Country Album of the Year is determined by the sales of new albums released in 2021, from January 1 to December 31. 

The top 5 top-selling Australian country albums of 2021 were:

1          Troy Cassar-Daley              The World Today
2          Adam Harvey                      Songs From Highway One
3          The Wolfe Brothers             Kids on Cassette
4          Darlinghurst                        Darlinghurst
5          Andrew Swift                       The Art Of Letting Go


Tamworth Regional Council and the CMAA will present the 2022 Toyota 50th Golden Guitar Awards live on the new date of Wednesday, 20 April 2022, from Tamworth Regional Entertainment and Conference Centre and livestreamed via the Festival website.

Commencing in 1973, the Golden Guitar Awards are the nation's longest-running music awards and play a vital role in developing and promoting Australian country music talent. 

The ABC is the official broadcast partner of the 2022 Awards show, and fans can tune into ABC's coverage via the live stream at https://www.facebook.com/LandlineABC or the live radio broadcast https://www.abc.net.au/country/

A 90-minute edited highlights program will air on ABCTV +iview.  The show will also be broadcast by KIX Country Radio.
