An emerging talent, Rory Phillips' influences span alt-country, folk and blues and his performance style reflects that. However it is his gift for the guitar which really sets him apart from his peers, being quite the dynamic performer on both acoustic and electric guitar. At just 17, he's been a regular on The Bushwackers' line-up for 4 years and joined Sara Storer's touring band in 2023. Finding inspiration in what he knows, Rory has co-penned songs about life on the road, his future aspirations and the issues in the world as he sees them. His 2020 single, The Truth, was a passionate call to action on climate change and along with his debut music video, was named a finalist in the 2022 Environmental Music Prize alongside industry heavyweights such as Paul Kelly, Eskimo Joe and Lime Cordiale. His follow-up single, ‘Because Boys’, takes an insightful look into the mental health struggles of young men. ‘Because Boys’ was chosen by the NSW Department of Education's The Arts Unit as the repertoire piece for their 2023 Boys' Vocal Program, was featured in the 2023 NSW Schools Spectacular and was a semi-finalist in the 2023 ‘Listen Up Music’ Songwriting Prize.
